You see, I’m a hopelessly addicted bath and body junkie – consumer of all things deliciously fragrant to the nose and nourishing for the skin and ever since I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with skincare and fragrances.

My childhood travels to Japan, the United Kingdom, France, China, Singapore, Malaysia and India heightened my interest in the beauty rituals practiced in these countries – from the indigenous ingredients used, to the role of fragrance in their products. Growing up in Zambia as an expat really helped develop my insatiable curiosity with what beauty meant to different cultures. It was also around this time that I took my first foray into skincare, when I made a salve from a recipe my nanny taught me using shea butter and sunflower oil to soothe my dry, itchy skin and just like that, my love affair with skincare was born.

My love affair became a full blown obsession when I moved to the United States. So many products, not enough skin! However, in my pursuit to consume every product that I could spritz, slather and lather on my body, I noticed that I was often forced to choose between scent and sensibility. Should I buy the cream made of high-quality ingredients, but available in only one, dare I say uninspired scent or should I shop by fragrance, opting for the cream made of mostly fillers and synthetic materials, but offered in a variety of fun and unique fragrances? Thinking back on my travels, I began researching the local beauty ingredients I had come across and hand-blending fragrances that reminded me of the places I had visited. I had found my calling and Crater Lake Company was born.
